PLACENCIA, BELIZE

Do Nothing. Experience Everything.

2020 JULY 7 - 12

Placencia is a gorgeous emerald peninsula in southern Belize with 16 miles of sandy beaches.

Years ago the area was a quiet fishing village (with a narrow meandering sidewalk that served as its main street) but it is now a major tourism and resort area offering many attractions and entertainment ranging from kayaking, snorkeling, diving, saltwater fly fishing, whale shark watching during the full moons and many more. Pedestrianized Placencia sidewalk is a charming, funky stretch lined with coffee shops, art galleries, shops, restaurants, a post office and some night life. A trip to nearby Seine Bight, a traditional Garifuna village a few miles north of the peninsula, provides a chance to sample Garifuna cooking and music (including drumming and modern Punta Rock). The Maya ruins of Nim Li Punit and Lubantuum, as well as the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Preserve are a day trip from Placencia.

July 8 (Wed ) The Day Is Yours

Remember, It is the perfect location for land and water lovers. Suggestions Below:

Sea Kayaking

Whether it is through a watersports shop or one of the many waterfront hotels like The Placencia, you can rent a kayak and paddle your way through the clear Caribbean waters.  While these waters are not confined, they don’t have too much tide action, so it’s easy to kayak through them.  If you’re adventurous, you can do caye hopping by kayak and camp in them.

Lagoon Naturalist Kayaking

Lagoon Kayaking is a bit more passive than sea kayaking since here you go at a leisure pace to appreciate your natural surroundings – mostly composed of heavy mangroves.  The Placencia Lagoon is a good place to see manatees, dolphins, rays, and a great variety of fish and birds.

Scuba Diving

If snorkeling is good enough, diving is exponentially better.  Between the Placencia Peninsula and Belize’s Barrier Reef, there are miles of underwater canyons and topographical formations that create an extensive range of cays that are perfect for diving – whether you’re a novice diver or a dive master.

Close to Placencia is the White Hole, but if the Blue Hole is what you’re interested in doing, it is also possible with a longer dive tour.  Also from Placencia, you may have the opportunity to dive with the famous whale sharks!

Sailing and Boat Rides

Another good way to experience Belize’s Barrier Reef – second in size only to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef – is by sailing or doing cay hopping.  You can either do a day trip to many of the cayes like the Laughing Bird Cayes, Silk Cayes, and Long Coco Cayes.

There's more: River Tubing, Fishing, etc.

OR Treat yourself to a massage / spa.

6:00am Breakfast

Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary and Jaguar Preserve is believed to have the world’s largest density of jaguars as well as several other cat species. Belize’s national animal, the endangered tapir, also lives in the Cockscomb Basin Reserve along with over 290 different species of birds. It’s no wonder why Cockscomb is a leading destination for nature lovers around the world!

In this Belize Nature and Jungle Tour, your professional guide will meet you at Laru Beya for an hour drive to Maya Center Village, where you will check in and register before entering the Wildlife Sanctuary Reserve. Upon arrival to the reserve, you will be briefed and given orientation about the park. You will also view the original cages built by reserve founder, Alan Rabinowitz, which he used to capture and tag wild jaguars. The first hike will be on an established trail, where your guide will explain the flora and fauna that makes the reserve such amazing place. You will also get to see a plethora of wildlife including a variety of exotic birds.

After the first hike on the trail, you will return back for a home cooked lunch. Later, the adventure continues as you hike upstream with inner tubes. It’s now time to relax and enjoy nature as you gently float downstream going with the flow of the South Stann Creek River. After the river tubing, you will hike to the local waterfall for a refreshing swim. You will have the chance to swim under the waterfall and receive a natural massage from the flowing fall. What a great way to end your Belize hiking adventure!

There's so much to do - Zip Lining, Mayan ruins, Chocolate Tours, Visit / Tour Monkey River Jungle

The tiny picturesque village of Monkey River in the Toledo District is located on the coast of southeastern Belize at the mouth of the iconic Monkey River. This Creole village is a popular destination for eco-tourism trips up the pristine natural river to see some of the extraordinary range of tropical flora and fauna in the country, including the ubiquitous howler monkey that gave the river and village their names.

This eco-friendly tour starts in the village of Monkey River where visitors can dine at the popular local restaurant and stock up supplies. Visitors then board a small watercraft to begin a leisurely cruise up this gentle river. Along the way, it’s easy to spot crocodiles, manatees (often called “sea cows” due to their placid nature and large size), dolphins, lizards, monkeys and dozens of tropical bird species like parrots and toucans.
